This large-scale programme was crucial in improving health and education outcomes in rural areas. Ngobeng conducted a nationwide assessment of water and sanitation needs in schools and clinics, developing a prioritisation framework to identify the most critical interventions. We designed standardised yet adaptable solutions for water supply and sanitation facilities. Our team coordinated with the Departments of Education and Health to align the programme with their infrastructure plans.
We managed the procurement process for contractors and suppliers and oversaw the implementation of water supply systems, including boreholes, rainwater harvesting, and reticulation networks. Ngobeng managed the construction of sanitation facilities, including toilets and handwashing stations, and implemented water conservation and demand management measures. We conducted training programmes for school and clinic staff on maintenance of new facilities. Our team developed and implemented monitoring and evaluation systems to track programme impact and prepared regular progress reports for government stakeholders. This programme likely improved the lives of thousands of students and patients, contributing to better health outcomes and improved learning environments across South Africa.
