This innovative programme combined infrastructure development with economic empowerment. Ngobeng developed a framework for integrating job creation into sanitation infrastructure projects, designing training programmes to equip local community members with necessary skills. We coordinated with local municipalities to identify priority sanitation projects and developed labour-intensive construction methodologies for sanitation infrastructure. Our team managed the recruitment and training of local workers and oversaw the implementation of various sanitation projects, including the construction of toilets and small-scale sewage treatment works.
We implemented mentorship programmes to develop entrepreneurial skills among workers and coordinated with other government departments to provide complementary support, such as business development services. Ngobeng monitored and evaluated the programme’s impact on both sanitation coverage and local economic development, developing case studies and best practice guidelines for replication in other areas. This programme likely resulted in improved sanitation infrastructure in target communities while also creating valuable employment and skills development opportunities.
