Repair and Maintenance of the National Library of South Africa

This three-year project involved the comprehensive management of this critical national institution. Ngobeng conducted a detailed condition assessment of all library buildings and systems, developing a prioritised maintenance and repair schedule. We managed routine maintenance activities, including cleaning, HVAC servicing, and minor repairs, while overseeing major repair and renovation works, potentially including roof repairs, electrical system upgrades, and interior refurbishments. Our team implemented energy efficiency measures to reduce operational costs and managed specialised conservation environments for rare books and manuscripts.

We coordinated with library staff to minimise disruption to services during maintenance activities and implemented a computerised maintenance management system for better tracking and planning. Ngobeng managed relationships with various contractors and service providers, ensuring compliance with heritage conservation guidelines for historic library buildings. We provided regular reporting to NLSA management on maintenance activities and building condition. This project likely resulted in significantly improved facilities for both staff and library users, ensuring the long-term preservation of South Africa’s literary heritage.
